19 Aug Part-Time Finance Manager or Finance Controller

The Opportunity
A growing, innovative Cheshire-based business is looking to appoint an experienced Part-Time Finance Manager to take full ownership of its finance function. This is a genuine hands-on No.1 Finance role, reporting directly to the CEO. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of the day-to-day finance operation while also helping to develop the processes, controls, reporting and financial infrastructure required to support the company’s continued growth.
This would suit a qualified finance manager or controller who enjoys working autonomously, is commercially minded and is comfortable operating in an environment where there is plenty to build and improve. The role is initially 3 days per week, with flexibility around how those days are worked.
Key Responsibilities
You will take ownership of the complete finance function, working closely with the CEO and senior stakeholders to ensure the business has accurate, timely and commercially useful financial information.
Responsibilities will include:
- Taking overall responsibility for the day-to-day finance function.
- Managing the accounts process and ensuring accurate and timely financial records.
- Producing monthly management accounts (accruals, prepayments, depreciations), and meaningful financial reporting for the CEO and Board.
- Prepare sales invoices, supplier bills, expenses, payment runs, AP, AP, process payroll for 10 employees
- Managing cash flow and working capital, providing clear visibility of the company’s financial position.
- Leading budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
- Maintaining and developing the company’s financial model, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow forecasting.
- Developing appropriate finance processes, controls and procedures as the business grows.
- Identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function.
- Providing commercial financial insight to support business and investment decisions.
- Supporting the business with future funding and investment activity.
- Managing financial reporting requirements connected with grant funding and other external funding arrangements.
- Preparing supporting analysis, reconciliations and financial information for grant reporting.
- Working closely with the CEO and senior leadership team on financial performance, planning and business strategy.
- Ensuring the finance function remains scalable and fit for future growth.
About You
This is a role for someone who enjoys being close to the numbers and close to the business rather than managing from a distance.
You are likely to be:
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA qualified finance professional.
- Experienced as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or No.1 Finance professional.
- Comfortable working autonomously and taking complete ownership of a finance function.
- Strong technically, with excellent management accounting and financial reporting skills.
- Experienced in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and cash flow management.
- Commercially aware, with the ability to turn financial information into useful business insight.
- Comfortable developing processes and controls rather than simply inheriting an established finance infrastructure.
- Confident working directly with a CEO, Board or senior leadership team.
- Highly organised, pragmatic and comfortable working in a changing environment.
- Experienced with Xero and Excel, or similar accounting and financial modelling systems.
- Experience of grant-funded, investment-backed high-growth businesses would be advantageous, but is not essential.

The Package
- £60,000 – £75,000 FTE, pro rata for 3 days per week
- 3 days per week
- 25 days holidays, plus banks pro rata
- Cheshire-based / Hybrid working
- No.1 Finance position reporting directly to the CEO
