The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Qualified Finance Manager – Overheads to join a well-established organisation based in Chester.
This is a broad and varied finance role combining management accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, stakeholder management and people management.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, you will take ownership of overheads reporting and financial management, whilst also supporting wider financial reporting and project activity across the business.
The role offers genuine responsibility and the opportunity to work closely with operational managers and senior stakeholders, providing meaningful financial insight and helping drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Management Accounting
- Take ownership of financial and management accounting and reporting for designated overhead areas.
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly management accounts.
- Support the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and annual budgets.
- Review month-end and quarter-end journals, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections.
- Provide clear and insightful financial analysis to support decision-making.
- Support tax and VAT reporting through the provision of accurate financial information.
- Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Work closely with operational managers throughout the budgeting and planning process.
- Provide financial guidance and challenge to budget holders, ensuring ownership of budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor overhead expenditure and provide analysis of variances and trends.
- Prepare accurate cash flow forecasts and longer-term financial projections.
- Manage and support one Finance Assistant.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching and development.
- Ensure the Finance Assistant continues to develop their technical skills and knowledge.
- Maintain a collaborative and supportive working environment.
- Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Undertake ad-hoc financial projects and assignments as required.
- Challenge existing processes and ways of working and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and efficiency of the finance function.
- Communicate financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
About You
Our Client is looking for a qualified accountant who combines strong technical accounting expertise with a proactive, commercially aware and collaborative approach.
You will ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification
- Strong post-qualification experience within a finance environment.
- Proven management and financial accounting experience.
- Experience of budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
- A proactive approach to process improvement and delivering efficiencies.
- The confidence to work with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
